Mario Tennis for GBC Guide
Island Open
Here's your chance to prove your skills!
Your partner should have 13 Control and 13 Speed. You should have 12 Control, 12 Speed, and 4 Control.
Recomended Shot: Drop
Start your file again and you'll go to the Island Open.
Sammi and Sean
Sammi: Technique
Flow Lob Service Return from her and you'll begin on the plus side. Her aim will leave you on the back line of the tennis court opposite of your partner. When she sends it to you, charge up a big lob to help get your partner back into the game.
Sean: All-Around
Sean will seem like he's a Speed, Technique, and Power character all rolled into one. Lob shots to or over him will be the best way to deal with him, so you can use his power or Sammi's angle. If all else fails, try Drop Shots.
Spike and Elden
Spike: All-Around
She has no notable qualities except that when she makes a drop shot it curves wildly. Never give her a chance to perform a drop, and use drop hits yourself away from her.
Elden: Speed
Elden not only has speed, but power as well. Make sure you drop to him also, so you dull his shot power. To get around his speed, try topspins or smashes between him and Spike.
A. Costello and B. Costello(or Coz)
A. Coz: Tricky
He'll serve Corner serves, but sometimes they turn to Corner In serves. For this reason, stay on the center of the bottom of the service court he's serving to. Unlike his small size as compared to his brother suggests, he's powerful. His rally and lob powers are unbelievable, so use drop shots off to the side when you're stuck in a rally with him and when you're at the back of the court, stay in the center bottom.
B. Coz: Power
He is unpredictable with serves, so repeat what you did with A. Coz. His areas of power is smashing and diving after the ball. When he does either of these, drop the ball off to the side(but never hit an overhead drop off to the side--instead of a drop shot when you aim your racket overhead, wack a smash hit).
The Coz bros stick together, and that is their weakness. Drops and slices will come in handy when they are both on the same side.
You will face Emily in the semi-final Singles.
Emily
Emily: Speed
Emily will be your toughest opponent in the Island Open.
She should be treated like she's from the junior class; keep dropping the ball to one side while being close to the net until she tires out. When she dives for the ball, you can get in a quick topspin by her on the other side. Always return with a drop shot unless the ball is slow, because if you let Emily get in the back she'll lob it right over your head. Always serve corner in so that she can't return it at a sharp angle and so that you don't have to chase the ball.
