BBro's Justice League Task Force Review

Year released: 1995 (Genesis, SNES)

Number of Players: 1-2 simultaneously

Heroes from DC Comic’s Justice League (Aquaman, Batman, The Flash, Superman, Green Arrow, and Wonder Woman) clash with various villains (three!) in this Street Fighter II clone!

Graphics: (75%)
Decent. Characters are recognizable, but some are awfully small (see The Flash). Backgrounds for each character (all of ‘em have their own) are really nice and fit in with the character. For example, Superman’s stage is on top of the Daily Planet, Batman’s stage is on a Gotham City rooftop, Aquaman’s stage is in Atlantis, etc.

Control: (75%)
Stolen right from SF II. You’ve got light, medium, and heavy punches and light, medium, and heavy kicks. Moves are performed the same way as in SF II as well. The controls sometimes are unresponsive, leaving you open for attacks while you’re trying to do a move.

Sounds: (65%)
Not that great. Themes for each character’s stages are suitable, but sometimes repetitive. The sound bytes for each character pretty much sucks; all you hear are low voiced grunts. Wonder Woman and Cheetah, the two female competitors, both sound like low voiced women! Ugh…

Gameplay: (60%)
Think of it as a boring version of SF II, with DC characters thrown in. All you do is punch, kick, then try to do a special move, and repeat. The AI of the computer opponents is totally cheap, even on the lowest difficulty.

Replayability: (50%)
I see no reason to play this game a lot. JLTF only has two one-player modes: Story and Battle. Even if you’re playing against someone else, you’ll get bored easily after a few matches.

Final Words:
A mediocre Street Fighter clone. Unless you’re a big DC comics fan, steer clear of JLTF.

Final Score: (64%) D
