Review of Mario Party 4 by Boomerang Brother
Developer: Hudson
Publisher: Nintendo
Genre: Party
Year released: 2002
Number of Players: 1-4 simultaneously
Mario Party 4 is the fourth game in the long running Mario Party series and features fifty new mini-games.
Visuals: (86%)
The visuals are much improved from the N64 versions of the MP games.
Sounds: (76%)
Background music is decent, and the characters taunt each other, as always. Nothing too exciting.
Gameplay: (85%)
Though some of the mini-games are fun, a lot of them are either way to easy or based on luck, not skill, as they should be. MP4 features only 50 new mini-games, which is a bit less than what has been offered in past MP games, and there are only five boards (and one secret one) that are rather small. MP4 also suffers from “cheating AI” like past MP games, in which computer players mysteriously find hidden blocks with stars or something of similar nature.
Replayability: (77%)
Like past MP games, MP4 is more fun to play with 2-4 players. The one player mode is decent, but gets old fast. It does give you and incentive to play though; you collect little toys for each character, and if you beat each of the six boards with each character, you’ll get all the toys. Not really worth getting unless you have a lot of time on your hands.
Personal Score: (83%)
Bottom Line:
MP4 could’ve been much better. There’s a lack of mini-games and boards. It does make a decent multiplayer game, though.
Final Score: 81% (B-)
