While on vacation, an imposter dressed as Mario has painted the town with a weird substance. Mario must clean the town himself while trying to search for the real perpetrator.
Visuals: (97%)
SMS’s graphics are excellent. Everything is bright and colorful. The water looks very realistic too.
Sounds: (92%)
SMS features some new tunes as well as some old favorites.
Gameplay: (96%)
The gameplay of SMS is actually a bit similar to Super Mario 64’s. Mario has a lot of moves from SM64, as well as some new ones. Most of SMS revolves around the use of FLUDD, the waterpack Mario uses. You can squirt things, float, jump high, and run fast using FLUDD. It does run out of water, so to fill it back up again, just go into some water and hold R. You can also ride Yoshis in SMS. Once you get a Yoshi egg, feed it the fruit it wants and it’ll hatch. Yoshis can spit juice, float, and eat enemies. Your main goal in SMS is to collect Shines. These are collected from beating bosses, reaching a certain point, or by completing a certain objective. Some parts of SMS are on the easy side, but there are some difficult parts.

There are 120 Shines to collect, and collecting them all should take a while.

Bottom Line:
SMS is an excellent platformer, but isn’t as revolutionary as Super Mario 64. Still, it’s worth a try.
