Review of Timesplitters 2 by BBro

Developer: Free Radical
Publisher: Eidos

Genre: FPS

Year released: 2002 (GCN, PS2, X-Box)

Number of Players: 1-4 simultaneously

The TimeSplitters have stolen the elusive Time Crystals and traveled through time. You must travel through different eras and gather the Time Crystals before history changes permanently. TimeSplitters 2 is the sequel to the first TimeSplitters, which was PS2 exclusive. Now, TS2 is on all three consoles.

Visuals: (87%)
Graphics in TS2 are very nice. The backgrounds look great, but the character models are just okay. Not too bad, but not spectacular neither.

Controls: (95%)
Controls are set up nicely, but many may end up changing the default control scheme. You can do so in the Options menu.

Sounds: (95%)
TS2 has a great soundtrack. Many of the tracks for places through time fit that era, like futuristic music in the future levels and Italian-like music in the gangster-filled Chicago era in the 1920s.

Gameplay (96%)
There are several different modes to choose from. One or two players can play the Story mode and complete the objectives, or up to four players can play the Arcade mode, where all the multiplayer mayhem takes place. There are plenty of multiplayer modes, ranging from the standard Deathmatch to more obscure ones like Flame Tag and Monkey Assistant. You can add up to ten bots as well, for a maximum of 14 players at once! Single players can try out the Arcade League and Challenge modes, in which you must complete a certain objective, sometimes with a time limit. Completing one of these levels will earn you a medal. Gold or Platinum medals will unlock characters, stages, modes, and more. There is also a MapMaker mode, in which you can make your very own map and customize it the way you want it.

Replayability: (98%)
There are plentiful unlockables in TS2. There are tons of different characters to play as in the Arcade mode, ranging from army commandos, zombies, circus folk, and aliens to even more obscure ones, such as a monkey, a duckman, and a gingerbread man! You’ll have to unlock nearly all these characters, though, as well as some stages, multiplayer modes, and more.

Bottom Line:
With so many unlockables and a really awesome and addicting multiplayer mode, TS2 is just plain fun. Really worth checking out. TS2 can be found for as low as $20 now, so you can get it for a really good price.

Final Score: (94%) A
