Review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist by BBro

Developer: Konami
Publisher: Konami

Genre: Beat-'em-up

Year released: 1992

Number of Players: 1-2 simultaneously

Shredder has acquired the Hyperstone from Dimension X and has used it to shrink New York City! As the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, defeat Shredder and his henchmen and return NYC to its normal size!

Graphics: (80%)
A lot of the sprites and backgrounds from TMNT IV were used in HH, but don’t look as good due to the limited color palette of the Genesis.

Controls: (85%)
The Genesis control doesn’t feel as good for playing TMNT as the SNES is. A button is for jumping, B attacks, and holding C will make your Turtle dash. I find the default control scheme to be a bit awkward, but not to worry, there are six different control schemes to choose from.

Sounds: (80%)
Nearly all of the tracks heard in HH are from TMNT IV. They, of course, don’t sound as good, but they sound decent.

Gameplay (90%)
If you’ve played TMNT IV, you know what to expect. There are a few differences. First off, there are five levels in HH, but most of them are combined TMNT IV levels. Level 1 in HH has parts of Levels 1-3 from TMNT IV. There are also a few new enemies, such as fire breathing Foot Soldiers, and also a few new bosses.

Replayability: (70%)
Beating HH will probably take about an afternoon. There are only two modes, a one and two-player mode. Unlike TMNT IV, I don’t usually go back to this game after I get bored.

Bottom Line:
TMNT: HH is not as good as TMNT IV: Turtles in Time, but it’s still a game worth checking out if you are a TMNT fan.

Final Score: (81%) B-
