Review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time by BBro

Developer: Konami
Publisher: Konami

Genre: Beat-‘em-up

Year released: 1991 (Arcade), 1992 (SNES)

Number of Players: 1-2 simultaneously

Shredder has stolen the Statue of Liberty! The Turtles must fight Shredder and his goons to get it back. But Shredder has a plan up his sleeves – he’s going to send the Turtles through time, and along with them, a large army of Foot Soldiers and some of the Turtles’ strongest enemies!

Visuals: (88%)
The graphics are much improved over the graphics of the TMNT game trilogy on the NES.

Sounds: (94%)
The background themes in TMNT IV just rock. There are some sound bytes in here as well, and they sound all right.

Gameplay (94%)
TMNT IV uses the basic beat-‘em-up formula: defeat all enemies onscreen to advance, and advance until you get to the stage’s boss. Sure the formula may seem bland, but it has a TMNT twist to it. The levels are full of Foot Soldiers, as well as other baddies such as Stone Warriors and Mousers. There are also lots of traps like wrecking balls that squash your Turtle and spikes that hurt your feet. The level bosses include familiar faces such as Bebop, Rocksteady, Baxter Stockman, and Super Krang, and also lesser known villains such as Leatherhead and Slash. These bosses are tougher than the average enemy and require some strategy if you want to beat them.

Replayability: (92%)
TMNT IV is a fun game to pick up and play whenever you feel like it. It’s really fun playing with another person. Too bad there’s no 4-Player support.

Personal Score: (96%)

Bottom Line:
TMNT IV: Turtles in Time is a fun beat-‘em-up and is a great 2-Player game.

Final Score: (93%) A-
