The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening Review

Genre: Adventure

Year Released: 1993(Game Boy). Re-released as The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (1998, Game Boy Color).

Number of Players: 1

Mario Cameo Appearance: The character Tarin bears a striking resemblance to a certain red-wearing mustached plumber.

Link is in a shipwreck, and wakes up on a strange island. Now, he must collect musical instruments from various dungeons to wake up a creature called the Windfish whose egg sits at the top of a mountain (or something like that).

Graphics: Good graphics for Game Boy. Link and the rest of the details and characters of the world are easy to see, even on the small screen Link's Awakening DX goes the extra mile and adds color to it.

Play Control: As always, Link will find plenty of different items on his adventure, and the easy control scheme will allow you to use evety one of them without a hassle. You can assign items to both the A and B buttons.

Sound: The classic Zelda theme sounds great even on the small speaker. Sounds aren't as complex at LTTP's, but they're pretty good for Game Boy and they do the job.

Challenge: What would a Zelda game be without challenge? With plenty of dungeons to explore and bosses to defeat (what Zelda game is complete without a giant boss or two to defeat?), this game is hard to put down.

The Bottom Line: Another great game, quite possibly one of the best portable adventure titles. Fans of the genre (and even those who just like a good adventure now and then) will be playing Link's Awakening until they can't stay awake themselves.
