Mario is Missing Review

Genre: Educational

Year Released: 1993(NES, SNES, PC)

Number of Players: 1

Bowser has kidnapped Mario and Luigi has to save him! To do so, Luigi must also travel to different cities around the world and restore the monuments and artifacts that the Koopas have stolen. With a little help from Yoshi, Luigi is ready to save his brother!

Graphics: The graphics are essentially out of Super Mario World, with some nice-looking pictures of monuments around the world. Once you've restored an artifact, you can look at a picture of it in Luigi's photo album. Text is big and easy to read, which is essential for a program that teaches kids about geography and how to read.

Play Control: Well, moving Luigi around is fairly easy, but talking to people isn't very intuitive, especially with the NES version.

Sound: A lot of the music is just remixes of themes from Super Mario World, and a lot of the sounds are the same, as well, at least on the SNES version.

Challenge: OK, it's an educational game, so if you're learning to read, the trivia you must answer to restore an artifact may be difficult, but Luigi can't be hurt. He simply walks through enemies. Because of this, the Koopa kid at the end of each hallway is too easy to beat. You don't even get to fight Bowser in the end! All it does is show a cinema scene.

The Bottom Line: It may be good for an educational title, but unless you're a diehard Mario fan, this game isn't worth trying, simply because it's too easy and it gets pretty boring.

Fun Facts

This is one of Mario's first two educational titles, the other being Mario's Time Machine.
