Super Mario Advance Review

Genre: Action

Year Released: 2001(Game Boy Advance)

Number of players: 1-4 simultaneously

Mario returns on the Game Boy Advance! It includes SMB2 and Mario Bros. on one game, with all-new features and the ability to play a four-player game of Mario Bros.!

Graphics: Essentially the same as on Super Mario All-Stars. New things, such as Ace Coins and items in Mario Bros. abound, and look great. The giant enemies and vegetables look a little pixelly, but still good.

Play Control: The great play control from Super Mario All-Stars is still there, so there's nothing to whine about there.

Sound: The music has been remixed and sounds even better now. Some characters now talk, but your character's voice can become annoying, especially Peach and Toad's. Argh! You might find yourself turning down the volume, as someone at VGF said Toad sounds like an angry Miss Piggy. Good comparison.

Challenge: SMB2 isn't the hardest Mario game, but Mario Bros. will keep you from putting it down, especially in a heated multiplayer battle.

The Bottom Line: This is a great portable Mario game. It's like having a mini-copy of Super Mario All-Stars that you can carry around and play. If you're picking up a GBA, this is an excellent Mario game to go with it.

Fun Facts

This is Mario's first GBA appearance.
