Super Mario Bros Review

Genre:Action

Year Released:1985(NES), 1986(Arcade). Also made an appearance in Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt (1988, NES), Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, and World Class Track Meet (1988, NES), Super Mario All-Stars (1993, SNES), and Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (1999, Game Boy Color).

Number of Players: 1 or 2 alternating

King Koopa has kidnapped Princess Toadstool of the Mushroom Kingdom and Mario and Luigi have to save her and the people of the Mushroom Kingdom! Get through 8 worlds of 4 stages, each with their own layout and enemies, to get to the final showdown with King Koopa. The Mushroom Kingdom is depending upon you!

Graphics: By NES standards, these graphics are pretty dull, but remember, this was one of the first games for the NES. Everything is easy to see, and Mario and Luigi are nice and big, at least when they've grown from getting a Super Mushroom.

Play Control: Big surprise-another easy-to-control Mario game. Even someone who hasn't played a video game before can pick up a controller and have fun.

Sound: Ah, the joy of hearing the classic Mario music and sound effects. Might not sound like much to non-gamers, but to Mario fans, this is the sound that immediately provokes fond memories of stomping Goombas and hurling fireballs.

Challenge: Maybe not as challenging as earlier Mario games, but there's still a good challenge. Not a lot of replay value, though, except trying the harder game after you beat it once. The ending is much better than earlier Mario games-thank goodness...

The Bottom Line: This is the definitive Mario game. It's a must play for all Nintendo fans, and a nostalgic journey for Mario buffs.
