Super Mario Bros 2(Japanese) Review

Genre: Action

Year Released: 1986 in Japan (Famicom). Released in US under the name "Lost Levels" in Super Mario All-Stars (1993, SNES)

Number of Players: 1 or 2 alternating

King Koopa has kidnapped the Princess and mushroom people (again) and Mario has to stop him! Guide Mario (or Luigi) through 8 challenging worlds of 4 levels each to rescue the Princess of the Mushroom Kingdom and her people!

Graphics: The graphics don't change much from the original in the Famicom version, and in Super Mario All-Stars, they are the same. Not much else to say there.

Play Control: Surprise, surprise-this game is easy to control. Again, that about says it there.

Sound: The sound doesn't change at all from the original. The same goes for the Super Mario All-Stars version, except for the music at the title screen.

Challenge: If you want challenge, play this game! I hear that the difficulty of World 2 on this game is equal to the difficulty of World 8 of the original. You think you'd get a better ending for all that frustration you must have endured, right? Wrong!

The Bottom Line: If you want to know what challenge was all about back in those days, try this one. If you want a great ending or are frustrated easily, I suggest you keep looking.

Fun Facts

This is the first Mario game in which you can choose to be Luigi.

This game was judged to be too hard and not original enough for American gamers, so they changed an easier game called Dream Factory: Doki Doki Panic into a Mario game!

Golem says: This game as well cut off "Bros".
