Stunt Race FX Review

Genre: Adventure

Year Released: 1994(SNES)

Number of Players: 1 or 2 simultaneously

Mario Cameo Appearance: Mario's head can be seen on a sign on some courses, and Luigi's head can be found on a sign in Battle Trax mode.

One of the first games to use the Super FX chip. Race down 3D tracks to beat your opponents in Speed Trax, or collect stars in Battle Trax mode. Fun fun fun!

Graphics: Any type of polygonal graphics are pretty advanced for the Super NES, and this is no exception. You're racing through a realistic 3D world. The cars and environments look great, and there are even a few cameos from the Star Fox team. Bonus! There are lots of cool effects, like drops of water appearing on your windshield while racing through the Aqua Tunnel track.

Play Control: Controls are nice and easy to pull off. Gas and steering are a cinch, and the cars have different characteristics (like the 4WD, which handles well and is durab;e but is slow, and the F-Type racer which accelerates slowly and is weak, but has the highest top speed.)

Sound: Though there's not much in the way of sound effects except the vehicle sounds, the music is great. It suits the environment you're racing in. My personal favorites have to be Aqua Tunnel, Red Canyon, and Night Owl.

Challenge: The game provides a great challenge. Sure, you can beat the game with the nimble coupe or 2WD motorcycle, but how about with the crazy handling of the 3WD, or with a lumbering semi truck? Go ahead, I dare ya. The variety of modes (Free Trax, Speed Trax, Stunt Trax, Battle Trax) keeps things fresh.

The Bottom Line: This game's got everything. Speed! Fun! Excitement! Cars with eyes! Quite an underrated game, but that shouldn't keep you from trying it. Start your polygonal engines!
