Ecco Review

Year Released: (Genesis)

Number of Players: 1

Graphics: Realistic. Lots of blue.

Play Control: You can talk by sending out waves (you can also get a map of the place by staying still and receiving the same wave again; this is called echo-location) and charge. Swimming is just pressing a direction (eight are present).

Sound: No music. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Sound effects are standard.

Challenge: You're underwater with an air supply. You can fill it back up, though, both on the surface and underwater in caves. Ecco must solve puzzles to reach the end and move on, so the decreasing oxygen supply can hit you when you are just making a breakthrough.

Game Play: True puzzle games like "Lolo" are fun, but come on! Argh! Oxygen supply? If you like puzzles, you may as well give this a spin anyhow.

The Bottom Line: Ugh.
