Golden Sun: The Lost Age Review

Year Released: 2003 (Game Boy Advance)

Number of Players: 1, but 2 players can battle each other in a Battle feature

After stopping Saturos and Menardi, Isaac and company can rest, right? Not until they find Jenna. Meanwhile, the leftovers of Saturos and Menardi's party continue on.

Graphics: Almost look 3D! There is a bit of pixelation, but it's not so bad.

Play Control: Every RPG should feel like this.

Sound: Great tunes and sound effects! The only annoying thing is that you'll be enjoying a great dungeon theme when a random battle sticks its head in and interrupts. Then the theme starts all over. Yergh!

Challenge: The puzzles will make you think. You might want to sharpen your brain on Golden Sun before delving into its sequel, as The Lost Age hands puzzles that are appropriately harder than those at Golden Sun's closing. As far as the battles go, unless you're a genius, the random battles that occur during puzzle-solving will have you and your crew levelled up enough to deal with anything.

Game Play: Psynergy (the powers you use to manipulate objects in puzzles) menus are simple. Shortcuts make psyenergy fit like a glove. Djinni also ad flavor and allow you to gain needed puzzle psyenergy. Not to mention that they all have their own unique powers in battle, and then there are multielemental summons. Ooh! Not to mention that all 28 Djinni return from Golden Sun if you got them all and transfered your data. This game would be bland without Djinni, but the puzzles still hold up without them.
Before you knock it for its puzzles, don't. I hate Myst and the Legend of Zeldas, yet these enigmas engross me. Borrow this game before you own it if you're unsure, but whatever you do, don't dismiss it.

The Bottom Line: Classic RPG battling and great mind bogglers. Although you may feel lost at times, you'll stumble upon the next thing to do in true blue Golden Sun style.
