Review of Luigi's Shack by Golem
A Mario Brothers themed site

URL: http://luigishack.com/

Layout and Look: Cool gray for normal text and cyan for links on top of black sidebars and a dark gray background. In the sidebars, special images designate sections on the sidebar. A Gamecube themed banner heads

Getting Around: The sidebar on the left is what you mainly use for this, as one would expect. It lists each subsection in each section (for example, there's Game Info [the section name], which has Animated Sprites, Wallpapers, and other stuff [the subsections] listed, and within the Animated Sprites page you'll find a listing of different games for which you can find animated sprites). While this makes for a rather lengthy sidebar, it's a breath of fresh air after hanging out on a site such as Nintendo Fans with its maze-like structure.
Sometimes pages will open in new windows or will ditch the sidebar. Not a big deal, but worth noting. Also, certain things are listed, but unavailable. They just aren't linked to, that is.

Loading Time: About twenty to thirty seconds for a page to fully load on my dialup. Not admirable, but not disappointing.

Variety: Mainly sprites and sounds. This game has tons of the stuff, too. Those itty bitty Super Mario Land sprites are there, and there are even midis for Mario Teaches Typing 2 and Mario's Game Gallery, among lots of midis for better known Mario games. There isn't a lot of fan stuff, and the game information lists only vital stats (though, there are certain stats I never knew that are listed, such as certain speeds of the game--stuff a simple mind like mine doesn't understand). The site also has a decent selection of flash movies and links to a number of RPG Maker (2K, 2K3, XP) resources.
Most of the images, sounds, and movies are not even on the site. More than likely a midi will be straight from TMK, or a flash movie (you know, SWF) will be on some well known flash site. Nothing is stolen, merely directly linked to.

Usefulness: The Shack provides a sort of easy access to the resources of massive sites such as TMK. However, it seems that a lot of this stuff is coming from TMK. Here's hoping Luigi's Shack finds some other sites to pry into so it provides better variety.

Anything Else?: It hosts sites.

The Bottom Line: I'm not the most experienced at website types, but Luigi's Shack seems to be on the verge of creating a new genre; an offsite resource site. While it certainly is useful to some degree, the lack of variety in sites it links to limits that usefulness.
