![]() ![]() Year released: ? (Nintendo 64) Number of Players: 1-4 simultaneously It's a 2D basketball game! Graphics: Incredible for 2D. Everything is rendered beautifully while nothing looks taudry. The players are a bit big as compared to their settings, though. Play control: Awesome. Everything moves smoothly. You'll be able to flow all of your motions, and switch from a dunk to an alley-oop on the fly. You can even set your buttons and save them to a Control Pak. Sound: The music, as is to be expected in such a game, gets old. However, the sound effects are realistic and very nice. Voice clips are great. Challenge: The later teams you go up against know the ins and outs of the court, and will whipe the floor with you if you don't. It even learns patterns of your movements. However, early on, it's easy to win a game with even a 20 point lead.
Gameplay: Turbo, shoot, pass. Same as most other basketball games. However, you have secret codes that change the gameplay slightly (haven't discovered most of them, personally). Also, computers will go for alley-oops--they jump at the net and you pass to them mid-jump for two points. It's very useful when you're stuck in a crowd. Also, the stats affect your character a lot more than I've noticed in other basketball games. Not to mention that shoving in this game doesn't always guarantee you getting the ball...
Bottom line: The challenge and gameplay come great, especially to someone who's tired of all the other 2D beat-all-the-other NBA teams games. It's just that saving... blech. You're saving on a Control Pak the whole time (that's the only way to save), so it might get deleted a few times before you beat the game. Check out the SNES version.
