Sonic & Knuckles Collection

System: PC (Windows 95, 98 - Yes; Windows XP - No; Windows 2000 - Not Sure [an e-mail to webmaster@nintendofans.zzn.com if you find out would be much appreciated]) Number of Players: 1/2 Simultaneous

Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles on one CD-ROM. Pretty cool if you don't own a Genesis.

Graphics: A bit pixelated. Plus, the sprites in the 3D Chaos Emerald rounds need more frames. Nothing to put down, though, as it is as colorful and finely-tuned as the Genesis version.

Play Control: You will want a game pad for this one; one with a control pad. It can get annoying without a game pad. Don't plan on playing with a friend unless you get two. Also, the gravity in this game is heavier than on the Genesis. Sonic still has some pretty good height in his jump, but after playing this, Sonic's leaps on the Genesis seem slow. Not to mention that timing in the special zones is a lot harder than on the Genesis.

Challenge: Sonic 3 is easy, and even Sonic & Knuckles seems to be without challenge. The only zone to ever truly stump me is Sandopolis Zone (Act 2, specifically), which I have not beaten to this day. Even if the Game Over screen does come up, Sonic 3 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles saves your game by the last Zone you started. However, the special zones are another thing, especially when you consider their control flaw listed above.

The Bottom Line: For those without Genesises, this is a great game to get. The only difference is that the zone music tracks for Sonic 3's last three zones are different (out of place sometimes, but not bad). Oh yeah, and they fixed the horrible Super/Hyper Sonic sprite used at the games' ends.
Available at Sega-Parts.com and your local stores.
