The Super Mario RPG Extravaganza Review

Founded: October 24, 2003

Subject: Super Mario RPGs (at the time of this review, that's SMRPG, Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi)

URL: http://www.angelfire.com/games5/ultrasonic/

Layout and Look: Star Hill (that's an SMRPG location) sky for the background. If you've never played SMRPG before, that's a purplish bluish dark color. Then you're given images and pale text for navigation. Super Mario Planet could learn a thing or two about vision from these guys. I don't like Times New Roman font they use, though... but that's just me being picky.

Getting Around: You might need to use that brain inside your head (remember it now?), but not too much. Not too bad.

Loading Time: Awesome! This guy hasn't gone glitzy with the graphics, yet it looks like he has. There are several animated GIFs, but this site has been careful to use only a select few. The only thing bad was how the JavaScript popup (you know, browser prompt, click OK) made my computer go nuts for several seconds. That was probably because I was loading some JavaScripty stuff on another page at the same time, but still, I don't like to be caught off guard like that. Loading time is still quite awesome.

Variety: Ugh. This where it goes downhill. The only new thing is the fan art section featuring screen cap edits, but few are there. Secrets of the Seven Stars already hoarded all the other Mario RPGing information, so I hope this site can grow unique information. At the time being, though, it looks like this site won't give that a try. I'm looking for funny stuff, fan fics, fan art, and especially new ways of expressing the above. I'd give suggestions, but hey, that would make this a webmastering class and not a review.

Usefulness: They have a list of weapons for Super Mario RPG and a rumors unproven list, but the nature of both are quite obvious: that is, buying weapons in SMRPG isn't that ambiguous and people should know by now what Square's style is.

Anything Else?: Polls.

The Bottom Line: I know reviewing a web site this young is like beating up a little kid (ummm... for lack of better imagery that comes to my mind), but of all the sections to come, there seems to be little to no innovation on the horizon for this site. SMRPG Extravaganza is not a fan site in the sense that Super Mario Planet is a fansite, which is a shame. But, the cosmetics of this site are just right--you may want to keep your eye on it just a little while longer.
