Secret of Mana Review

Year Released: 1993 (Super Nintendo)

Number of Players: 1-3 simultaneously

The Mana Sword, spoken of in many legends, is losing its power, along with all of the other Mana weapons. Bad guys are lurking around every corner, taking advantage of its powerlessness. And it doesn't help that some people are asking for trouble from the gods.

Graphics: Colorful. Everything is quite flat, though. Nothing to complain about.

Play Control: This game is good at control. But sometimes you can't hit an enemy when you're right on top of it, or it reacts ten seconds later. Not to mention the music takes a few to load whenever you enter a new map. Again, nothing to complain about.

Sound: Everything fits in its place. Quite catchy, nothing repetitive.

Challenge: None, really. But that doesn't take out the fun.

Frustration: The only frustrating thing is that sometimes you must talk to people twice to get something to happen, but you get used to it after talking to everyone you possibly can then coming back to the same person a few times. This isn't as bad as it seems, though. Plus, with a human partner or two, leveling up can be actually fun! The Bottom Line: Secret of Mana takes the Legend of Zelda theme and takes it to the next level. Yay! Oh yeah, don't check out the other save files once you get it (presuming it is out of the box and that there are used save files in it when you buy it). Just don't.
