Sonic Blast Review

Year Released: 1995 (Sega Game Gear)

Number of Players: 1

Ivo Robotnik is YET AGAIN after the Chaos Emeralds. Sonic and Knuckles will have to go through mediocre special stages to get them before Ivo does while making their way to and destroying his floating castle in the sky.

Graphics: Great! Well... Yeah. Sonic and Knuckles are rendered too far to fit into their environment, not to mention that their elbows and knees don't work. Everything else is as it should be.

Play Control: It will be a bit awkward for people who have played a 2D Sonic game before. Momentum is a bit off: simply put, Sonic and Knuckles go from 0-2 MPH in a mere minute. Not to mention that Knuckles' gliding gains zip ground.

Sound: Sound effects aren't that great, but if you could turn the FX off, this game would have pretty good music.

Challenge: Sonic Blast is easy until one reaches the Blue Marine Zone, at which is found a confused mass of pipes and currents.

The Bottom Line: Without a Genesis for quite some time, the Game Gear was my main mode of playing Sonic for some time. At that time, this game was a little worse than the others (Knuckles was finally playable on Game Gear, however). Looking back, though, this game is worthless. I wouldn't wish it upon my enemies.
