Uniracers Review

Year Released: 1994 (SNES)

Number of Players: 1-2 simultaneous

Unicycles race to determine the champion while showing off their best tricks.

Graphics: Great! Colorful, weird backgrounds, full shading on everything!

Play Control: Just push the direction you want to go on the control pad (this is a sidescroller with no depth, just length and width). B to jump, and you can perform numerous tricks with L, R, A, Y, and X while in the air. These tricks make you go faster when you hit the ground, too.

Sound: Different, but not something I'd listen to other than while playing the game. Gets a bit boring. Solid, however, as are sound effects.

Challenge: At first, you must simply keep racing while pulling off as many tricks as possible. This never changes, but in the first races, this is a simple task. Then the computers get better and immediately you need to lay out the whole map for tricks. Pretty hard.

Game Play: Pretty fun at first, but the amazement wears off. Trying to jam more tricks that make you go faster, while a worthy challenge, is not a worthy play. Try getting someone else to play and have a 2P bout, that's always fun.

The Bottom Line: Don't expect hours of endless fun. If you already have games like Pinball and Ice Climber, or you don't have an NES, though, this will provide fun for a few days.
