Chrono Cross Review

Year released: 2000 (Playstation)

Number of Players: 1

About 20 years after the events in it's prequel, Chrono Trigger on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, a new adventure arises, as you travel between parallel worlds and recruit a wide variety of characters.

Graphics: I've got to hand it to it's creator, Squaresoft, they really did a good job on the environmental graphics. The character graphics leave a little something to be desired, but the environments are amazing for being a 3D game on a 32 bit system.

Play control: This is good in this field too. The controls are simple, yet the don't lack anything. After a few minutes of playing, you won't need to look at the controller. It also helps if you have an analog controler.

Sound: This game has some great music. No matter where you go, you'll always be listening to great tracks. The sound effects are good too, but it's the music that really stands out in the game.

Challenge: If you don't like a challenge, don't play Chrono Cross. I mean, it's not insanely hard, but it'll keep you playing for a long time. This is a two disk game, and I've had it for almost two months, maybe more, and I'm still on the first disk. This isn't something you can beat in an afternoon or to, so you have to be willing to put extra time into it, figuring out the puzzles and all.

Gameplay: As far as I can see, there's nothing wrong with this game. The controls are simple, yet you can do what you need to do. Since the gameplay's so good and it's a very fun game, you'll want to play the whole way through. In most RPG's, you'll get tired of random fight after random fight, but here you can see your enemies on screen, making it possible to avoid random battles. You can go through the game doing more boss battles than regular battles, but the battles are so fun, you may want to go into battle every chance you get.

Bottom line: This could be every RPG gamer's dream. If you like RPG's and have a Playstation, I'd recommend getting this game at the first chance you get. If you don't like RPG's, this could change the way you look at them. And if you don't have a Playstation of any kind, you should get one, even if just for this game.
