This was actually the first THPS Game I got. I first played a demo of it in a store, and I tell you, I liked it alot. I got it for PC around Christmas time, and I played it alot. Since its predecessor, there have been new tricks (including the manual feature), new levels, new skaters, and new features. Even so, I like the first THPS more.
Graphics: They're okay on the PC. The Playstation's graphics aren't very good, and I haven't seen the ones on the other systems. It probably looks good on the DC, though, but on the PC, I laugh at the fact that the wheels are merged with the trucks on the skateboards. It's not like the graphics are that bad, but other than the graininess, it's not improved from the Playstation one.
Control: Pretty much the same as the original control system seen in the original THPS. This is a good thing, though, seeing as it allows for as big combos as possible. The added manual feature helps too, and it's possible to get many more points than it was in the original version, but it doesn't leave as much room for creativity.
Sound: The sound effects were upgraded from the original. The grinds sound more realistic, but I kind of liked that bell-ringing sound found in the first. The soundtrack has five more songs than the first game, and this new soundtrack was good. It had more variety than the first's soundtrack had.
Challenge: I guess the challenge of this game is sort of intermediate-hard. Some of the carreer mode challenges are easy, but there will be cash icons in hard to reach places. I guess it all kind of varies. You may have trouble with the competitions as well.
Gameplay: The gameplay in this is great! The added manual feature makes for bigger combos, but it's fun to try getting combos without manuals. There are several different modes of play, with create a skater and create a park abilities not seen in the first. I'm not much of a carpenter, but it's fun to just go into the editor and see how cool a park you can make. The game also comes with some pre-made created parks for ideas for your own park.
Bottom Line: This is a great game. Not necesarilly a must-have, but if you can find it at a good price it'd be wise to buy it. In my opinion, it's the worst out of the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series, but don't get me wrong. It's still a great game, but the others are better.
