Wario World Review
Year Released: 2003 (Gamecube)
Number of Players: 1
Wario finally had his palace build. The walls were made of solid gold, and it was the perfect place to keep all of his treasure. One day, Wario was sitting in his palace, picking his nose. Little did he know that one jewel hidden in his palace, called the Black Jewel, started changing Wario's treasure in to enemy beings!
Graphics: Great! If it weren't quite as cartoony, it would look sort of close to real. I don't mean to say it's cel-shaded, though. Anyway, the graphics are great.
Play Control: The controls are quite simple. All you use are the control stick, A, B, the C stick, and the finger buttons. Easy to master.
Sound: I love the music and sound effects in this game. In fact, I have one of the tracks playing in my head as I write this review. I can still hear Wario's grunts and the sounds of pounding out the enemies now. The best music track would probably be the music on the pause screeen. Funny stuff.
Challenge: In this area, the game isn't quite as strong. It's a really short game with only 5 "worlds", but if you want to get all the treasure, you will have to do a bit of searching. Otherwise, it's pretty much something you can complete over a period of a few days, or even an afternoon.
Gameplay: Although it's a short game, it'll keep you playing. There's not really any menus, so most of the time playing the game is actually spent, well, playing the game. This is followed up by the simple control scheme, which will only take a few minutes to master. A cool thing about this game is all the different ways you can kill your enemies. Piledrives, punches, ground-pounds... You name it.
Bottom Line: This is a platformer with the classic Wario game feel to it, with added 3D. I really liked this game, but I'd suggest renting it instead of actually buying it. You save about $45 that way, and you'll beat it in a short time either way.
