Review of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver by Bowser 102
Year of Release: 2000 (DC) 1999 (PS) (PC)
Developer: Crystal Dynamics
Publisher: Eidos
ESRB: M for Mature
Players: 1
I am reviewing the game Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver for the Sega Dreamcast. A bit of a background for y'all: Game was released first on the Playstation, and PC back in '99. This game is a sequel to Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. It also has several sequels and spinoffs on the PS2. It's also one of the few great Adventures on the DC. Okay, now onto the good stuff.
-Gameplay- 9/10
You play as Raziel, a demon who was betrayed and killed by Kain, and now you seeks revenge. You are now dead, therefore starting off in well, the dead world, known as the "spectral plane", where nothing moves, and you fight evil monsters of the dead. There are portals that can take you back into the "material plane" the real-life world, the place where Raziel once existed. There he takes his phisical form, and his to kill vampires and suck the souls out of them to feed. The main gameplay consists of fighting monsters, solving puzzles, flying around, and just exploring new areas. It's a good combination and nothing can go wrong with that... Even though I get lost a lot. >_<
-Graphics- 6.5/10
The graphics are good at-a-glance, but is not even close to pushing the power of the DC. Why? Well, probably because this is basicly a PS port. Yeah, pretty much looks like a touched-up playstation game. And for proof, I'd say the ugliest thing in the game is the blocky citizens of Nosgoth. Eh... Anyway, there ARE some really good points, in fact, the game is still pleasing to the eye. the textures on most things are not too bad, no bluriness, little lag, and it has a really nice CG scene in the opening of the game. Oooo...Banana. But alas, this is not it's strongest point.
-Sound- 9/10
Whoa, I have to hand it to them on this one. The sound is superb. They have excellent voice acting for a change, and lots of it! Not only that, it's crisp and clear, as is the games sound effects. Raziels claws cling to boxes, his cape flaps as he glides through the air, he splashes through water, he torches enemies, impales enemies with force, and you hear the proper effect. Awesomeness on Crystal Dynamics's part.
-Music- 8/10
The right gothic touch, with dark instruments that blend well with the mysteriousness of the game.
-Replay Value- 6.5/10
It's a 1-player adventure game, but hey, it's a good one with a load of action. You'll definitley want to come back to this one.

Overall: 7.8/10 [ round nearest .5 ]
It's one of the finest adventure games out for the Dreamcast. If you don't have a Dreamcast, get it for PS, or PC. You won't regret it, that's for sure.
Final score: 8/10
