Cat Investigations Volume 2
Part 2
In the apartment with Narrator, a short black man with a George Lucas beard was listening from a hallway that lead into the room that the others were in. He dashed out of the hall and picked up Coryoon by the tail, then flung open the door and threw Coryoon out. Coryoon, thrown into a trance by this move, couldn't help himself and flew towards the stair well. Narrator stayed back and let Cat give chase.
Cat, alarmed, ran out and caught up with the man while still running (albeit at the man's pace). "Is that you, Writer...?!"
"Well, well! You again! This should be... cool. Now go catch up to Coryoon!"
And Cat, picking up his normal pace and zooming down the stair well, did.
Soon, Coryoon was near another apartment building with a helicopter buzzing around it.
Then Cat saw... "The Catmobile?! What's it doing here?" He followed Coryoon through the front door of the apartment building, getting ever closer to the young dragon.
Coryoon snapped out of his trance, and saw he was headed towards a wall. His sense of gravity aware, and he knew he wasn't falling, he braced for impact by spinning so his tail and legs were first, and he spread his wings to act as "air brakes." He bounced off the wall. "You OK, Coryoon?" asked Cat. "Newspaper taxis, appear by the shore....oh, hi Cat. I'm ok! That stupid Prince once did that to me, said I was ruining his time with the princess, and told me to shut the funk up, or he'd do it seven more times. Anywy, we have to go up!" They walked up a staircase. "Hey, there's enough weirdos upstairs, I don't want anymore, they're makin' a mess!" came an angered yell. "Martha, get my shotgun!" Cat and Coryoon rushed upstairs, to make sure that if that voice wasn't bluffing, they wouldn't be in site. ********************************************************** Rival's chopper touched down at the lab. The doors wouldn't open. "What is the meaning of this?" demanded Rival. "I'll do the honors!" said #3. "No!" said #2, "this will be my turn!" He opened a metal plate next to the door. He connected a couple of wires there to sockets in one of his hands. "Bionic implants, aren't they wonderful?" A few moments later the door slid open. The inside was dark, but Rival knew where a light switch was. As he flipped it, a strange buzzing noise was heard. "Is someone trying to get in on this?" asked Rival, indignantly.
[Setting: Upstairs]
In his frantic pace, Cat tripped over a loose board and was knocked unconscious.
"Wake up!" Coryoon said as he shook Cat violently. However, no matter how hard he shook, Cat would not wake up.
[Setting: Dream World]
"Mmmmm...", said Cat, dazed and confused by the fall. Cat found himself in a strange room.
"It's about time you woke up! I've been waiting all day for you!" snapped the Ageless one rather sarcastically.
"Why am I here?"
"You fell. This is your world. Dream World"
"Dream World?"
"This is the place your imagination inhabits. You've created this world with just your mind. And such nice decor, I might add."
"Why have you brought me here?"
"To tell you something. This world was created by you. If you were to ignore it, everyone here would die and disappear."
"Yes, I think you said something like that before. Why did you bother telling me again."
"This!" The Ageless one extended his arm. His right arm no longer had color, and his body was becoming a series of colored dots starting at the edge of his arm. "I want you to remember, if you should ever ignore this world you've created, like my creator has, everything and everyone you've created will die. I'll never be able to forgive you if you ignore your imagination."
Though he felt betrayed by his creator, the Ageless one had not been forsaken! The Ageless one failed to realize this in fear of his life.
"This is the end of the line for you," announced a robotic voice. "Hey, I don't remember a robot guard being installed here," said Rival. "Exordium e Terminus" he said, using a general password he used for a few of his security systems. A strange robot that resembled a six-legged metal spider appeared, attached to a couple of overhead rails. One of its legs had a raygun at the end. Rival held his dagger in defiance. It would be useless, but that wasn't the point. The robot fired a couple of lasers that were dodged.
#2, meanwhile, pointed one arm at the spider, and crossed the other arm in front of him. "You DON'T do that to the boss," he yelled. "This is his lab. We're going to Australia, and you're going to the scrap heap!"
"Talk is cheap," announced the robot.
"Just blast him, I want to pilot the Eagle of Death TODAY!" yelled Rival. ***************************************** Cat and Coryoon found a fire-escape, and Cat ran down it, with Coryoon following him. Then they saw Pieruru and company on a different fire escape.
"What's going on?" asked Car. "Something seems really weird here!"
Steve sat in his padded room, seemingly waiting for something to happen. After all, he had no hope...!
Suddenly, the door in this room opened, with Renn on the other side. "C'mon," Renn yelled, "what are you waiting for?!" Renn suspected that the security wasn't expecting a man of his strength, which was greater than Moondo's.
*********************************************************
Cat and everybody else landed on the ground outside in an alley.
Cat asked, "What are you guys doing here?!"
"There's someone who wants to see you, or maybe just kill you," replied Sam, pointing his thumb to outside the alley.
Cat ran out of the alley to see the helicopter.
The man inside it said into a megaphone, "I must stop the future! I must will I must stop it!"
"What are you talking about?!?!" screamed back Cat.
"The Ageless One has told me!" At this point, the man's voice changed to that of the Ageless One. "A photo of Cat and Isis. Isis is with child, a demon child. Let everyone who sees this photo wish its subjects were undone." The man shook his head and whipped out two guns this time. "Can't be no picture without no Cat!"
"Alan, you must stop him." said the Ageless one to himself. To be more precise, it wasn't him. His mind had split into it's compnent personalities, and they were currently having round house conversations with each other. "He's our friend, we can't allow him to come to harm." said the normally happy and chipper Big Glad Al.
"I say let him be shot! Stupid kid shouldn't have gotten himself involved!" countered Big Mad Al. He dressed as a General, and acted as such. In truth, he didn't want Cat to be harmed. However, anger was hard coded into him. It is for this reason that he is never allowed in control of the body.
"Or, we could wait until the last minute and then jump in front of him like that guy in that one movie... you know...", drifted off Big Rad Al. he was never in his right state of mind, he just liked to do daring things, even if it was never the time for such action.
"We must stop this man, even if it means killing him!" Big Bad Al was never afraid of anything. He'd do anything he needed to in order to destory his opponents. However, he was more Realistic than Mad Al.
"No, we must do sometihng, but it needs to be creative, different, unique." Big Mod Al was the creativity of Big Al. He doesn't like to create anything unless it is perfectly beautiful in conception and design.
"If he dies, I'll never forgive myself!" Then Big Sad Al cried. He then wiped his tears off with his gray sweatshirt.
"I'm sorry, Mad, but the people have spoken. Besides you know I'd never listen to you." said the Ageless One, who had a healthy mixture of all six personalities. "Let's go save our friend."
*********************************************************
Cat ran back into the alley to momentarily escape gunfire. He was hoping to be able to get back inside, when the Ageless One contacted him.
"Cat, you must concentrate on what I--"
"What do you want with me?! You just gave this guy reason to kill me!! And I could really do without going unconscious right now!"
"Cat, he's not sane. At my current level of energy, I cannot choose prophets with accuracy... At any rate, just listen!! We need you to focus on thoughts of the TASTS, thoughts of those you know in S-Space... anything your imagination knows. Do so, and I can enter your realm and help you!"
"What are you doing, Cat?!" yelled Sam.
Pieruru stood by, urging Cat to go in the door he had opened. Bullet holes lied in the wall on the narrow side of the alley.
In twinkling of an eye, Cat wakes up in an all too familiar bed, with an all too familiar voice talking to him.
"I'm glad you're finally awake. You were exausted from the gun fire and the trip, so I brought you back here." explained the Ageless One. "Perhaps the answer to our problem lies here, in your mind."
Still a bit drowsy from the trip, "What are you talking about?" asked Cat, "It it were in my mind, shouldn't I know it?"
"Unfortunately, that's not how the human mind works. Thoughts become obscured when trying to concentrate. To solve your problem, you'll need to look in the deep recesses of your mind."
*********************************************************
"Cat!!" yelled Sam again as Cat fell, unconscious.
Pieruru caught Cat through the armpits. "Man, he's no lightweight...!" Chasity ran in to help Pieruru get Cat inside before the man collected what was left of his wits. Everyone ran in, and after Coryoon got his tail in, Chasity shut the door.
"We have to get Cat back to where we were..." said Coryoon.
"What'd you bring him here for, then?" asked Sam.
"I guess I was confused by the dual prescense of the Ageless One in where we were, and in that crazed man."
"The Ageless One?" repeated Pieruru.
"Yes. You might know him. When he lost his memory, they called him 'Big Al.'" responded Coryoon.
Sam wondered, "Why don't you just go there yourself?"
"I dunno, the Ageless One said Cat was gonna do something... I kinda forgot! ...Ehehehe," said Coryoon. "I'll go there myself, it will be a lot easier to get around unnoticed by Mr. Crazy. And I guess we'll play it by ear." Everyone agreed, and Coryoon was out the backdoor.
Soon, he arrived at that same apartment. He wrapped on the door, which promptly opened, revealing Narrator.
"Well hello, what are you doing back here? Did you solve that problem?"
"Ehehe, not really... but anyway, I need to speak to you about the Ageless One!"
"Oh, you'd better speak to Writer, then."
"What? Why?"
"He created him." Narrator went to get Writer, who was soon present before Coryoon.
Writer asked, "What do you want?"
"I'm here about the Ageless One!"
"Ugh, him?!" responded Writer, regretting his creation.
A super jet was headed towards Australia.
Rival was piloting the Eagle of Death.
"Are you sure this is where..." began Number 1.
"Of course I am, dodo-brain!" replied Rival. He produced his knife, and while he put the jet on auto-pilot, he stroked the knife as though it were a pet. "My knife wants one thing. Blood. Soon there shall be a lot of that!"
"I think he's going a bit loopy," whispered number 3.
"He pays us well, so shut up!" replied Number 5.
***************************************** Ren and Steve were running through a dimly lit hallway.
"Rival's left, and he took numbers 1 to 5 with him," explained Renn, "The remaining guards are all idiots!"
As they continued on, they climbed a staircase. They walked over a grate. Down there, a pair of guards were smoking.
"I hate the Numbers. They have all the fun," complained one of them.
"We have the prisoners. Without the prisoners, the plan of HIM is for nothing. So we are needed!" ******************************************
"There's something complicated about the Ageless One"...began Writer...
"The Ageless one began as a comicbook supervillian I created. He was a member of a crime syndicate, and was considered extremely cool by my peers and fans. When I stopped work on the Stupor Fiends, I began work on the Party Goers, and brought his character over. The story evolved to the point where the characters were actually going into and out of the real world at their own will," continued Writer.
"Yeah, I know the guy. Tell me something new." Coryoon urged.
"Yes. Well eventually in a short story I wrote, he gained the ability to transverse time at his own will. Never dying, and never ageing, he began to disobey my design, and travelled in time to anywhere he pleased and took artifacts from the respective times. What he does with them I don't know, but I do know one thing else about him really irks me. I, being his creator, have been stalked in recent days by his figure for reasons I don't know. He's grown beyond my control, and I can't tell you any more about him."
Coryoon recalled a lecture the Ageless One had given him in his boredom once... but he didn't remember hanging out with the Ageless One at all... At the time, the lecture went over Coryoon's head, but it was instantly recalled by Writer's explanation.
Supposedly, it was impossible to change time. One could not go forward, because it was not written, and if one went back in time, one would only exist as how he or she existed at that time, and only do what had been done before.
Since the dawn of time, conditions have existed, from which only only certain events could happen, even though such events were and are indeterminable. Basically put, simply because things are the way they are, only one thing can follow from them--the conditions specify it just so.
So when multiple timelines formed--such as the neutral timeline that Coryoon inhabited now--an impossibility of time and space happened. Whatever or whoever grants this power gave some of it to the Ageless One, giving the Ageless One the ability to escape Writer's control.
An eternal mystery.
*****************************************
Renn looked to Steve, then around the area. Other than the entrance to the staircase, they were out in the open, surrounded by a parking lot with but a slim, long hallway behind them. Renn concluded that their best bet was to keep running forward, and form a plan to find out just what was going on in that base later. Oof, only one hitch... Rival was acting now, celerity was needed.
Renn wondered if it was a good idea to have Steve accompany him into the building again.
*****************************************
Rival then turned inward. He wondered what the thing he was looking for looked like. He had read accounts of it being described as a swift shadow. Rival didn't know if that was the device itself or the product of the device. All he knew is that he had the guinea pigs and time to make sure he could use it correctly before taking out the Ageless One and usurping his position. Just as the Council suggested... and the Council had never steered him wrong before.
*****************************************
That night Writer had a dream about his world he had created. He always imagined it as beautiful, but now, for some reason, it was fading. Soon voices came to him.
"You're killing them. They're dying. You must stop and save them."
"No, if you live you'll ruin peoples lives more. You'll kill, that's a risk I'm unwilling to take."
"Very well. Remember, though, If I go, and my world goes, my power doesn't. Are you willing to risk someone else taking it from me and using it for their own ill will?"
*****************************************
Renn turned to Steve. "You get away from here as fast as possible, I'm going back in."
"But you can't do that! It's way too--"
"I'm doing it, now get your hide out of here before you get caught!"
Renn dashed back into the building, once again enveloped by the enemy's trap. In the narrow, doorless hall, he whizzed past several guards before one caught up to him, tackling him. Renn turned his body in mid-air to slam the guard against the wall. The other guards caught up, but not before Renn had stolen something from the guard's person that looked to be a metallic slingshot. He turned it on by flicking a switch on its bottom, and he could see electricity shooting between the two ends at the top. He turned to face those who were chasing him and waved it in front of him, stopping the four guards present before him in their tracks. Just as he spun around to make another dash, one guard came out of each hallway joining into the hallway Renn was running through; one on the left and one on the right, both perpendicular to the one Renn ran through. Before he could react and defend with the electrical gadget he had stolen, one of the guards kicked it out of his hand. Renn gauged the trajectory of two guards in the middle of their punches and slipped between them and under their punches, but not without getting tripped. He fell flat on his stomach behind the two guards. Renn saw the tazer-like object he had stolen before him, and grabbed it as a guard was picking him up by his feet. Renn swung his torso upward with the upward motion of the guard picking him up, and held the tazer-like device to the guard's hand, loosening his grip and then some. Renn fell again on the floor, but this time landed on his non-tazer-holding hand and flipped himself, landing on his feet away from the guards. He instantly took off at incredible speed. It was then that Renn saw what he wanted: Rival's office. Right at the end of the hallway. He was a few yards away.
*****************************************
Cat awoke. He was lying down on a couch.
Pieruru, looking at Cat, saw his eyelids opening. "Hey, everybody, Cat's back!" he said.
"Hey man, you okay?" Sam piped in.
Cat sat up in the couch. "Yeah, but I have to go somewhere else, QUICK."
"Why?" Chasity asked, expressing the thought on everyone's mind.
Cat answered, "The Ageless One's managed to botch another prophet attempt in trying to communicate through someone (namely a guy named Narrator) to Writer. Simple version: we got another guy just like the one outside, except this new guy is verrrry close to someone verrrry important."
"You can explain on the way," Pieruru told Cat, "but the police have surrounded the building."
Sam knew there would be a big delay, too. "And even after the police force is gone, the media is gonna be all over us."
*****************************************
Renn came to Rival's office. The door, however, was locked and had a keypad. Worse, there were several wires connected to it. And he folled a wire along a wall, it went into a wall, and there were a few discolored bricks.
"If I go about this the wrong way, I bet there's a gun or something that will pop out and do me in...but if it's powerful enough....if I could just reach the code pad from a distance, I could set off the thing, maybe it will bust the door, maybe it will cause a diversion..." Then he remembered there was at least one other way in. "Rival would want a way out" He thought. He'd use that way.
