Barrel CannonSuspended by an unknown force, these barrels have openings so that you can jump in. Ones that look like Regular Barrels (called regular cannons) allow you to decide when you shoot out with the jump button (except for DKL3, where they shoot you automatically) and ones with explosion images on them (called automatic cannons) that shoot you out automatically. Some have arrows, which show where it will shoot you. Some allow you to move them.DKC, DKL, DKC2, DKC3, DKL3
Barrel RollDonkey and Kiddy can perform this move. Press Y or B (SNES and Game Boy versions respectively) to summersault forward. Roll off of an edge and you can jump if you are still rolling.DKC, DKL, DKC3, DKL3

Bazza A barracuda that travels from one coral to another.DKC3

Bitesize A small fish that swims around. Not much of a threat, except when they are in large groups.DKC, DKL
Bonus LevelsHidden all over Donkey Kong Country and full of extra lives, bananas, or other things! Access to these is granted after looking for an entrance, which is not always easy. In DKL, Kong Tokens are used.DKC, DKL

Booty Bird A fat bird that swallowed something, such as bananas, a letter, etc. Hit it to take what it ate. DKC3
Bounty Bass A fat, orange fish that ate something, such as bananas, a letter, etc. Ram into it with Enguarde to take what it ate. In DKL3, they hold nothing inside, although the manual claims they do.DKC3, DKL3
Bristles A hedgehog which hurts you if you jump on it. They can roll around.DKC3
Buddy BarrelSee DK Barrel.DKL
Buzz A bee that can only be taken out with a barrel or an animal friend. An Red Buzz is nearly invincible; they can only be taken out with TNT barrels. DKC3
Candy KongCandy runs the Save Point (see Save Barrel). She is also very close to Donkey Kong and is the only Kong who stands on two feet.DKC

Cat O' 9 Tails A blue cat with nine tails. When it sees you, he spins around and tries to grab yo with its tails. Jump on him when he's dizzy.DKC2
CavesAn ecosystem of DKC. Caves are all over the place! Tires and secret rooms are especially present here. Some are even covered in ice.DKC
Check BarrelOpens gates and extends time in roller coaster levels.DKC2, DKL2
Chimpanzee CloudsThe peaks of some of the highest mountains on Donkey Kong Country.DKL
Chomps A huge shark that swims back and forth. Watch out for when they are in groups.DKC, DKL
Chomps, Jr. A smaller shark that is a little faster than Chomps. They are sometimes found in groups. DKC, DKL
Clambo A clam that can spit pearls at you. In DKL, they open and close their mouths to try and clamp you. DKC, DKL
Clapper the SealJump on this animal friend's back and it will change the water to ice or just cool it enough so that it's safe to swim in it.DKC2, DKL2
Click-Clack A beetle that crawls around. Step on it once to turn on its back, which allows you to pick it up. DKC2, DKL2
Continue BarrelSmash these barrels with stars painted on them to mark your progress. Once you die in a level, you'll start back at where this barrel was rather than at the level's start.DKC, DKC2, DKC3, DKL3
Continue PointFloating stars that act as a Continue Barrel.DKL
Crab* These crabs float downward, the gradually float up again.DKL
Cranky KongThe original Donkey Kong that was in the arcades and the current Donkey Kong's grandfather. Cranky may harbor bad feelings towards the current kongs, but he still gives advice in DKC and DKC2. Cranky challenged Donkey and Diddy to see if they could do DKC on a console with limitations in DKL, the Game Boy. In DKC2, he only gives it after receiving payment in Banana Coins. In DKC3, he shows his skills in Swanky's contest to hit targets with balls. (Cranky is not actually in DKL2, but the manual says he is.)DKC, DKC2, DKL2, DKC3
CratesPick these up and use them as barrels that can't roll.DKC2, DKL2
Croctopus An octopus that swims around. Blue Croctopi chase the Kongs down corridors of coral and stops at a certain point. Purple Croctopi move in a certain path, usually in a circle. DKC, DKL
Diddy KongDiddy Kong looks up to Donkey and wants to be just like him. In DKC, he helped Donkey get back his banana hoard. He did this again in DKL. Then Diddy rescued Donkey Kong in DKC2 from the Kremlings. Diddy himself was captured in DKC3. He left with Donkey in DKL3 to find the Lost World. DK BarrelThese barrels are Regular Barrels that, when you only have one monkey, holds the other inside. Break it open to free the other. In DKC2 and DKC3, some are suspended in air--just jump at them to open it.DKC, DKC2, DKL2, DKC3, DKL3
Donkey KongDonkey Kong is close to Candy Kong and loves bananas. He is not the "Donkey Kong" Donkey Kong, but rather, a new generation. The star of DKC, Donkey's banana hoard had been stolen. After winning it back with Diddy (and doing this again in DKL), the Kremlings took him hostage in DKC2 and demanded the banana hoard as ransom. In DKC3, he and Diddy were captured by Kremlings. Donkey and Diddy left Dixie babysitting Kiddy to join the hunt on the Lost World that everyone was in on.DKC, DKL, DKC2, DKC3, DKL3, DKU
Dumb Drum Enemies such as Gnawty and Slippa jump out of these steel barrels and attack.DKC, DKL
End of Level TargetJump on it to end the level. The harder you land, the better the prize.DKC2, DKL2
Enguarde the SwordfishEnguarde swims very easily. Just press a direction on the control pad. Press the Y button to attack in DKC, DKC2, and DKC3 (use B in their Game Boy counterparts). In DKC2 and DKC3, he can charge up like Rambi.DKC, DKC2, DKL2, DKC3, DKL3
Expresso the OstrichHe runs quickly and can float by rapidly pressing the B button in mid-air. Look out, though, because he can't hurt any enemies. Expresso's long legs allow him to avoid some baddies, though.DKC, DKL
Extra Life BalloonSee Balloon.DKL2
FactoryAn ecosystem of DKC. Kremlings have built shabby factories all over Donkey Kong Country! Obviously they need stricter safety codes, so watch yourself.DKC
Fangfish Basically, a bigger version of Bitesize. Avoid.DKL
Flitter A dragonfly. Commonly used as stepping-stones to bounty.DKC2, DKL2
Flotsam A stingray that just swims back and forth. DKC2, DKL2
Funky BarrelFunky's Flights uses barrels that look like airplanes. Once you get to Funky's spot, you can hop in and fly to any area you've previously been. In DKC2, however, you must first pay a fee in Banana Coins.DKC, DKC2
Funky KongRuns Funky's Flights (see Funky Barrel). Funky is a laid back surfer punk who hangs out on beaches but keeps up with exotic travelling locations. In DKC3, Funky makes vehicles for the Kongs to get to new places.DKC, DKC2, DKC3

Gangplank GalleonK. Rool's headquarters in DKC was trashed after the final fight. The Kongs return in DKL to find any bananas hidden there and in DKC2 to pass through to Kremling country.DKC, DKL, DKC2
Gleamin' Bream A fat yellow fish that ate a source of light. Ram into it with Enguarde to light up the area.DKC3
Gnawty A small beaver. Green Gnawtys are common and just walk around and are easily beaten. Red Gnawtys run in circular woods wheels and chase you down. DKC, DKL
Hand SlapOnly Donkey Kong can perform this. When ducking, press Y to have Donkey pound the ground with his hands. This will defeat nearby enemies and even find things hidden underground.DKC
Hard HatThe mole in charge of Mad Mole Holes, he tries to get the Kongs from underground.DKL
Helicopter SpinDixie can twirl her long hair to defeat baddies. Use it in midair to glide!DKC2, DKL2, DKC3, DKL3
Hero CoinEvery level has one. In DKC2 and DKL2, Cranky has spread them out; Diddy and Dixie must find them to prove themselves as real heroes to him. In DKC3 and DKL3, Dixie and Kiddy defeat Koin baddies to gain the coin.DKC2, DKL2, DKC3, DKL3
Hogwash the Flying Pig Who says pigs can't fly? Hogwash patrols the air.DKL
Hot Air BalloonRide over lava on top of this balloon. Occasional blasts of hot air shooting up from below will keep you up and out of the lava.DKC2, DKL2

Kaboing A Kremling with two wooden legs that can jump high. A grey Kaboing is standard; a green Kaboing waits until it sees you, then jumps high into the air.DKC2, DKL2
Kaboom A red Kremling that hides in a TNT barrel. He'll explode on impact, so avoid him!DKC2
Kackle A huge ghost Kremling that will stalk the Kongs on their mine cart. If the timer runs out, Kackle will attack you! (Color of bandanas: Bluee, Green, Yellow, Red)DKC2
Kannon (1) A really fat Kremling that carries a cannon. Attack him before he fires.DKC2, DKL2
Kannon (2)Throw kannonballs in these, then hop in to gain access to a special stage.DKC2, DKL2

Klank A Kremling that rides around in mine carts. He likes to throw barrels at the Kongs and also likes to race. (Colors: Light blue, yellow, pink, green, light green)DKC2
Klap-Trap A tiny Kremling with razor-sharp teeth. If you roll on him, he'll bite you, so you can only take him out with a jump. There are two colors of Klap-Trap: light blue and purple. Purple Klap-Traps jump whenever you do. DKC, DKL
Klasp A Kremling who hides in an orange TNT barrel; he likes to hang on ropes. If the Kongs touch him, he'll explode.DKC3
Klinger A Kremling that climbs on ropes, chains, etc.DKC2, DKL2
Kloak A ghostly Kremling that hides in a large coat. It throws things you, such as barrels and even other enemies. DKC2
Klobber A Kremling that hides in a barrel. When it sees you, he'll start to push you around. Green Klobbers are standard, yellow Klobbers steal bananas when they push you, and black Klobbers steal lives!DKC2, DKL2
Klomp Your standard Kremling with a wooden leg. He hobbles around and is fairly slow.DKC2, DKL2
KlubbaSee Klubba's Kiosk.DKC2, DKL2
Klubba's KioskPay Klubba enough Kremkoins from bonus stages and he'll allow you access across his bridge and into the Lost World.DKC2, DKL2
Klump A fat Kremling. Diddy can't jump on him, and can only take him out with a cartwheel.DKC, DKL
Knik-Knack A bug. Red Knik-Knacks fly and are mostly used to boost you higher into the air. Yellow Knik-Knacks crawl around and can be thrown.DKC3
Knocka A cowardly Kremling who hides in a green barrel. He pushes you around.DKC3
Kobble A green Kremling that just walks around. Your basic, common Kremling.DKC3
Koin A heavily armed Kremling who uses a DK Coin as a sheild. You can only take him out from behind with a steel barrel. DKC3
Koco A clownfish. Green Kocos move, while orange Kocos are immoble. DKC3
K-O-N-G LettersReceive an extra life when you spell Kong with gold letters.DKC, DKL, DKC2, DKL2, DKC3
Kong TokensBig coins that are found in stages. Cash them in for lives in the Bonus Stages.DKL
Kopter A Kremling who spins two wooden boards rapidly to fly into the air.DKC3
Krash A Kritter who rides on mine carts. They like to ram into your cart. You can take them out with a well-timed jump, but it's best just to jump over them completely.DKC
KremlantisAncient temples lay submerged in water on Donkey Kong Country.DKL
Krimp A purple Kremling that crawls on all fours. He has huge teeth, so don't roll on him!DKC3
Kritter The most common enemy in the game. They can easily be taken out. Kritters come in different colors: green, brown, blue, grey, and plae green. The different colored Kritters have different attacking/jumping patterns:
- Green: Walks
- Brown: Jumps in place.
- Blue: Jumps forward.
- Grey: Walks, then jumps.
- Pale Green (not listed in the credits): Jumps from platform to platform
DKC, DKL
Krock-Head These Kremling hide in swamps or in lava. Diddy and Dixie can step on their heads to go across the water or lava. Green ones are standard, while brown ones can throw Diddy and Dixie up into the air. Watch out for its teeth!DKC2
Krook A Kremling that throws his hooked hands when he sees you. DKC2, DKL2
Kruncha A really muscular Kremling. Nearly all of Diddy and Dixie's attacks don't hurt him, they make him angry. When angry, Kruncha turns red and becomes faster and stronger. Kruncha comes in two colors: green (defeated with a barrel) and pink (defeated with a TNT barrel). DKC2, DKL2
Krumple A very muscular Kremling. Only Kiddy can take him out with a jump.DKC3
Krusha A big, buff Kremling. Only Donkey can take them out with a well placed jump; Diddy can't harm him at all. There are two colors of Krusha: blue (the basic one) and silver. The silver Krusha can only be taken out with a barrel.DKC, DKL
Kuchuka A Kremling who hides in a purple barrel and throws bombs at you.DKC3
Kuff 'n' Klout Two fat Kremlings that hop over each other or ram into you together.DKC3
Kutlass A small Kremling that carries two huge swords! The swords are so heavy, that he'll have a hard time picking them up after he attacks you. Attack him while he's recovering. Yellow Kutlasses are standard, while green Kutlasses are very quick.DKC2
Lemguin A penguin that jumps out of a hole and slides forward.DKC3
Life BalloonThe equivalent of a Banana Counter for lives.DKC, DKC2, DKC3, DKL3
Life HeartsDKL2's lives are counted in hearts.DKL2
Lockjaw An orange piranha with an appetite for Kongs. When it sees you, it tries to bite you.DKC2, DKL2
Lurchin A sea urchin. It's tender insides is its weak spot.DKC3
Manky Kong An angry orangutan that has an infinite supply of barrels to throw.DKC
Mincer These buzzsaws move up and down. They're sharp and they hurt! DKC, DKL
MinesAn ecosystem of DKC. These were emptied of all ore and precious material. However, miners left all of their shoddy construction, tools, and even mine carts.DKC
Mini-Necky This small vulture spits out coconuts in DKC. In DKC2, it tries to swoop down on the Kongs.DKC, DKL, DKC2
Minkey A monkey that hides behind tress and throws coconuts.DKC3
MountainsAn ecosystem of DKC. They are plagued with blizzards and harsh cold.DKC
Necky A large vulture. Some just fly around, while others throw coconuts at the Kongs.DKC, DKL
Neek A furry mouse. Not much of a threat, just step on it to kill it.DKC2, DKL2
Nemo A sleeping shellfish. When it wakes up, it'll chase the Kongs for a while, then stop at a certain point. DKL
Nibbla A fish with huge teeth. Its favorite food is Kong! DKC3
Nid A spider with a board on its head. Yellow ones always jump, but purple Nids only jump when you step on its board.DKC3
No Animal SignAnimal friends, upon reaching this sign, will dissappear (or the animal will turn back into the protagonist, depending on the method of the animal's appearance). A prize will appear.DKC2, DKL2, DKC3, DKL3
Plain BarrelSee Regular Barrel.DKL2
Puftup A porcupine fish. When it sees you, it inflates itself up. Some Puftups even self-destruct, sending needles in every direction!DKC2, DKL2
Rambi the RhinoRambi functions just like Donkey and Diddy, save for that he can open secret entrances by ramming them. Press Y in DKC and DKC2 to attack. In DKC2, Rambi can get ready and charge by holding down the A button and releasing it.DKC, DKL, DKC2, DKL2
Rattly the RattlesnakeHe coils himself up and jumps high! He can also charge up and jump much higher!DKC2, DKL2
Regular BarrelStandard barrels that can be tossed or put down. Destroy enemies with it or even find hidden areas. Diddy and Kiddy hold it in front of them, while Donkey and Dixie hold it above (Dixie with her hair).DKC
Re-Koil An orange Kremling with a springy tail which it uses to jump up and down or left and right.DKC3
Rock Kroc Only found in one level, Stop & Go Station. They go crazy when they see green light, but become immoble when they see red light. DKC
Rotatable BarrelMarked with an arrow going in a circle. Use the control pad left and right to move the opening and shoot to where you want to go.DKC2, DKL2
RuinsAn ecosystem of DKC. Full of uncontrolled vines and giant millstones (at least the ones that Gnawties use). Haunted?DKC
Save BarrelCandy's Save Point has a Continue Barrel that can be used to save your progres in the game.DKC
Screech Kaptain K. Rool's pet parrot. As Squawks, you must race and beat Screech.DKC2
Shuri A starfish. Red Shuris spin towards you, while orange Shuris spin in a certain path.DKC2, DKL2
Skidda A purple Kremling who slips back and forth on ice and snow.DKC3
Slippa A snake that slithers around and is sometimes found in groups.DKC, DKL
Snapjaw Basically, a purple Lockjaw that is invincible. He follows the Kongs underwater. DKC2
Sneek A rat. When Ellie sees it, she runs away.DKC3
Spiny A porcupine. Roll on it, but don't jump on it! You'll get hurt by it's sharp hairs.DKC2, DKL2
Squawks the ParrotHe only makes one appearance in DKC, and it's on the darkest level. He holds a light to guide you through a cave. In later games, though, he can fly and carry the Kongs. In these games he can also spit eggs to harm enemies. He has friends of different colors, too: red cannot fly (only slowly descend) and purple can fly but not spit eggs.DKC, DKC2, DKL2, DKC3, DKL3
Squidge A jellyfish that sometimes appears out of nowhere. Watch out for when they're in groups, because you'll probably get stung!DKC, DKL
Squitter the SpiderA giant spider animal friend that shoots webs. He can also stop them from any place on the screen and turn the web into a platform.DKC2, DKL2, DKL3
Star BarrelSee Continue Barrel.DKL2
Steel KegsThese durable barrels bounce off of walls and run right over enemies without breaking. You can even ride on top of it!DKC, DKC2, DKC3
Swirlwind Warning A small tornado that you can jump on to boost yourself. Don't get hit by its sides!DKL
Swoopy A bird that swoops down on the Kongs. If it misses and hits a tree, it gets stuck and you can jump on it to go up to higher platforms. They might attack you...!DKC3
TNT BarrelSee TNT Drum.DKL2
TNT DrumThis is an explosive barrel full of trinitrotoluene. Toss it and it will explode upon contact with anything. Sometimes, entrances can only be blown open in this fashion. In DKC, when you put it down, it will light up and explode seconds later.DKC, DKC2, DKC3
Treasure ChestThrow these at enemies to discover the contents.DKC2, DKL2
TreetopsAn ecosystem of DKC. A long-uninhabited village lies in the Treetops. Barrel Cannons are most notable here.DKC
UnderwaterAn ecosystem of DKC.DKC
Winky the FrogWinky may be awkward as far as walking goes, but his jumping is great! Try jumping off of enemies!DKC

Zinger An annoying, yellow bee that is commonly found. It can only killed with a barrel or with an animal friend. Orange Zingers are invincible. In DKC, Yellow Zingers move up and down, orange Zingers move left and right or are immoble, pink zingers move in a circle, and green Zingers move in semi-circles.DKC, DKL, DKC2, DKL2
