A
Albatoss:
Super Mario Bros. 2, American Version, Super Mario Advance
This was a bird that dropped Bob-ombs as it flew by.

Alley Rat:
Super Mario RPG
This guy uses a lot o' poison. Found in the Sunken Ship.

Amanita:
Super Mario RPG
Amanita is a mushroom that turned you into a mushroom mostly. Found in the Forest Maze.

Amazin' Flyin' Hammer Bro:
Super Mario World
AFHB was an interesting Hammer Bro, flying by on two grey blocks as he tossed about hammers. A real toughy.

Ameba:
Super Mario RPG
Ameba isn't the one-celled creature described in science books here, but instead a mechanical blue mushroom. Basicly an Amanita with better stats.

Amp:
Super Mario 64
Amp flies around, and whenever you touch it it zaps you. It goes in a simple pattern, so it's easy enough to avoid.

Appleby:
Wario Land 3, Dr. Mario 64
This little guy burrows and uses apples. I don't know much else, since I've only seen him in Dr. Mario 64.

Autobomb:
Super Mario Bros. 2 American Version, Super Mario Advance
This is a cannon on wheels. After you knock the Shyguy off it, you can ride it over spikes.

Axem Black:
Super Mario RPG
One o' the Axem Rangers. Defeat this one after Axem Green.

Axem Green:
Super Mario RPG
Another Axem Ranger. Take out this one after Pink.

Axem Pink:
Super Mario RPG
Knock out this gal first before any other Axem Ranger.

Axem Rangers:
Super Mario RPG
The big mechanical head at the back o' the Axem Ranger's ship. After one-two charging turns, it blasts at the three heroes you have picked to battle.

Axem Red:
Super Mario RPG
This should be the last Axem Ranger you defeat.

Axem Yellow:
Super Mario RPG
Focus your attacks on her after you've gotten Black out o' the way.

B
Baby Bowser:
Super Mario World 2
This is the main boss o' SMW2 and YI64. Don't know much 'bout 'im, since I've only rented SMW2 and YI64.

Bandana Blue:
Super Mario RPG
General baddie, but they're on the Sunken Ship right before Jonathan Jones.

Ball 'n' Chain:
Super Mario World
These swing in circles. Mario and Luigi can pass the chain, but if they touch the ball with spikes, they get hurt.

Bandana Red:
Super Mario RPG
A little tougher than the Bandana Blues.

Banzai Bill:
Super Mario World
This is an overgrown Bullet Bill. A spin jump in turns it into dust, though.

Batadon:
Super Mario Land
The stone enemies with wings that hop along. They aren't very hard to avoid or eliminate--jump on it instead o' using superballs, though.

Battle Beatle:
Super Mario Land 2
An average enemy that lives in the forest. It can be beaten either with a jump or a fireball.

Beezley:
Wario Land 4
When this bug stings Wario, his face will puff up like a balloon and become Puffy Wario(see Wario Forms).

Beezo:
Super Mario Bros. 2(Western), Super Mario Advance
These are flying monkeys with spears.

Big Bertha:
Super Mario Brothers(Movie)
She seems like an enemy at first. Later on, though, she helps the Mario Bros. escape.

Big Bird:
Super Mario Land 2
This one doesn't have an official name. It's the boss o' the forest. Just bonk its head three times.

Big Boo/The "Big Boo":
Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2, Super Mario RPG, Super Mario 64
An enormous Boo Buddy. Like a Banzai Bill to a Bullet Bill.

Biokinton:
Super Mario Land
Boss of the Chai Kingdom(4th level). Just keep shootin' till it comes out o' its cloud, then shoot a lot more. Try to get the Chickens it shoots at you for extra points.

Birdo:
Super Mario Bros. 2 American Version, Super Mario RPG, Mario Tennis 64, Super Mario Advance
At first its kind thought it was girls when it was really boys, but over the time from SMB2 to Mario Tennis their species turned into real females.
Depending on its color, it will spit out different things.

Pink-Eggs
Green-Eggs and Fire Balls
Red-Fire Balls

Use the eggs it spits at you or a nearby Mushroom Block to hit it three times. Afterwards, it will give you a bubble and you can pass through the crow head.

Blargg:
Super Mario World
These are bony lava creatures that lunge at you from underneath. Yoshi can jump on them and Mario can spin jump on one--both without getting hurt.

Blooper:

The infamous Bloober. Fireballs and thunder strikes are affective on the SMRPG counterpart.

In Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Mario can pick them up. They will blow up Bob-Omb Blocks.

Bony Beetle:
Super Mario World, Paper Mario
They can be temporarily defeated by jumping on them, or altogether beaten by a swish of a cape. They protrude their spikes every now and then, and in Paper Mario, when you use a charge-up attack on it.

Also called Boo Buddy. These are the regular Boos.

YIPES! In the haunted house's library, these guys come flying at Mario. You just wanna stay clear of them.

Boom Boom:
Super Mario Bros. 3
The guard at each fortress. Sometimes it flies, and has other ways to evade Mario and Luigi. Just trounce it three times to defeat it.

Booster:
Super Mario RPG
This guy doesn't get out much. At the top o' Booster's Tower, you can avoid fighting Booster by winning the curtain game. You'll also get a very valuable Amulet for doing so.

Bowser Clone:
Super Mario RPG
When Belome comes back for a second round and eats Bowser, this guy comes up! Avoid this tough guy by putting Mallow and the Princess in your party instead.

Bowser Morton Koopa:
Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2 Japanese Version, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario RPG, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64
AKA Bowser, Koopa, King o' Koopas, etc. Mario's mortal enemy.

Bullet Bill:
Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2 Japanese Version, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2, Super Mario RPG, Super Mario 64
As immortal as a Koopa roll-wise, this guy only made a small cameo in SM64. Just defeat it by bopping it.

Bunbun:
Super Mario Land
Only appears in stage 1-2. Throws arrows down that are simple to evade.

Buzzy Beetle:
Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2 Japanese Version, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World

C
Capt. Syrup and the Black Sugar Gang:
Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land, Wario Land 2
Wario's other enemy besides Mario. Wario stole her treasure, and in WLII she gets it back. In the very end, Wario ends up with his cash again and some extra from her dungeon.

Chain Chomp:
Super Mario RPG
Like a Chomp, 'cept gold and it has more HP.

Chargin' Chuck:
Super Mario World
Sadly, this guy only appeared in one game even though he was a great foe. He charged at you and threw baseballs and footballs.

Cheep Cheep:
Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2 Japanese Version, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario RPG
Refered to as "stupid fish", "idiotic fish", and "those really helpless fish that no one can figure out why they were made after they were disgraced in later Mario games". In SMB and SMB2(Japanese), they were formidable but that ended there.

Chibibo:
Super Mario Land
The same as a Goomba, 'cept it's in Tatanga's army.

Chicken:
Super Mario Land
Only in 4-3. These guys randomly fly at you, and only take one bullet to beat. Biokinton shoots these at you.

Chikako(Glitter):
Super Mario Land
Also only in 4-3. They take 10 BULLETS to defeat!

Chomp:

This guy bites at Mario and Luigi's heels. Watch out! Only Invincible Mario can kill 'em.

Chuckya:
Super Mario 64
The huge purply thing that has a stick and ball coming out it's head and two balls on sticks for arms. Be sure not to let it pick you up, but grab it just like King Bob-Omb.

Clawgrip:

Cobrat:
Super Mario Bros. 2(Western), Super Mario Advance
This is a red snake that sometimes spits mini cannon balls. Normally they hop out o' jars.

D
D.D. (Dangerous Duck):
Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land, Wario Land II
D.D. throws out boomerangs which are quite easy to avoid.

Dino-Rhino:

Destroy this enemy with a spin jump or bounce on it with a normal jump to make it Mini-Rhino.

Dino-Torch:
Super Mario World
A Mini-Rhino.

Dodo:
Super Mario RPG
Working with Valentina and having a rich life, this bird has become... "oversized". He's Mallow's impostor and you know what to do: find a way to storm in the castle and kick him and Valentina out.

Donkey Kong:

Now called Cranky Kong, this big ape hurled barrels at Mario. He didn't, though, at Stanly; instead he threw bugs on which Stanly used bug spray.

Donkey Kong Jr.:
Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong 3
DK's sidekick.

Dragonzamasu:
Super Mario Land
In 2-3, Dragonzamasu throws fireballs at you. Shoot your way using the bottom tunnel or battle it out. Either way, look out for the huge ball called Tomao floating around defending the dragon.

Drill Bit:

Just a basic enemy found inside Exor.

Dropper:

A huge Shy Guy.

Fighterfly:
Mario Bros.(Arcade)
The huge flies.

Fishbone:
Super Mario World
Fish Bones are to Cheep Cheep as Dry Bones are to Koopas.

Fishin' Boo:
Super Mario World
These are the ghosts of Fishin' Lakitus. They are just as invulnerable to your attacks as Boos, and since they only dangle down blue fire, you would best steer clear.
"Cape-achuting" (using the patern of back on the control pad, rest for a few seconds, back, rest, etc.) is a good way since Mario or Luigi turns out okay and they float back invincible.

Fishin' Lakitu:
Super Mario World
This Lakitu holds an item out on a pole. If you take it, (s)he'll become a regular Lakitu and start throwing Spinies at you.

Flurry:
Super Mario Bros. 2(Western), Super Mario Advance
A Shy Guy covered in snow. They skid along the ice, and when you hop on them you're not going to stay on for long due to slipperiness.

Fwoosh:
Super Mario 64
On Tall, Tall Mountain this guy can blow off your hat. He's a huge cloud.

G
Gao:
Super Mario Land
In the pyramid o' 1-3, these guys stay still and spit fireballs which bounce off the walls slower than but like superballs.

Geckit:
Super Mario RPG
They're the weakest in a battle bunch, and they often become confused and hurt others, so save these for last.

Gecko:
Super Mario RPG
See Geckit.

Goomba:
Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2(Japanese), Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario RPG, Super Mario 64
These evil mushrooms walk along slowly. With just one stomp, these guys are vanquished. In Super Mario World, if you bop it regularly you can carry it for a short period of time, or just spin jump to instantly kill it.

Grubby:
Super Mario RPG

Grunt:
Super Mario 64(?)

Gu Goomba:
Super Mario RPG

Guerrilla:
Super Mario RPG
They look like Donkey Kong. Go after these ones first in a battle.

An octopus-lookin' thing that is in 2-3. Shoot it with two torpedos and in a last strike o' defense will shoot out two fireballs.

H
Hammer-Bot
Wario Land 3, Dr. Mario 64
This thing is big, but it still moves at a normal pace. One wack from its hammers and you'll turn into Spring Wario!

Hammer Bros.
Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2(Japanese), Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario RPG
In SMB1-3, they stand on platforms and jump from one to another throwing hammers at you. The best way to get them is fire ball 'em from far away. In SMRPG, though, you need to do a timed jump and a timed punch for each bro to defeat them. Use a Mushroom if your HP goes below 10.

Heave-Ho
Super Mario 64
Stand on their platform to get to high places by getting flinged through the air. It throws you backwards.

Heavy Troopa
Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario RPG
These appear on Big Island in SMB3. In SMRPG, try to defeat one as fast as possible because it will use a heavy attack after three turns.

Helio:
Wario Land 3, Dr. Mario 64
This is the balloon boss. He throws spears that you must dodge, or they'll make your head swell up and you'll float away.
Helmut
Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land
I don't actually own the game, so don't ask me. Please e-mail me(go to the mailbag section) if you have a good description.

Hiyoihoi
Super Mario Land
This guy tosses rocks at you in 3-3. Just jump on them to cross to him and then the button, or he can be defeated with a LOT o' superballs.

Super Mario World
Spin jump on it to simply pass it, or shoot fire balls, eat it, or swish it away with your cape to get rid of it.

Jumping Pumpkin Plant:
Super Mario World
These oddities act just like a Jumpin' Piranha Plant, and the only difference is that it is a pumpkin.

K
Kammy Koopa:
Paper Mario
Bowser's advisor, I believe. A female Magikoopa. Uses spells and the like to try to stop Mario.

King Totomesu:
Super Mario Land
The first boss. Just shoot 5 superballs at 'im, or run behind him and jump on the button.

Klepto the Condor:

He has the first star in Shifting Sand Land. When you chase down this bird's star, watch out, because it will come at you in later visits to steal your hat.

Koopa (Troopa):
Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2(Japanese), Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64
In SMB1-2, just jump on it and kick it into enemies. In SMB3, when it's hiding in its shell, you can grab and run with it. In SMW, you can do the same--but when you jump on it, the koopa will slide out, so you can hold it forever and not worry for it popping back out like in SMB3. In SMW2, jump on it to stomp it or eat and spit it back out to defeat it. In Super Mario 64, if you manage to chase down the turtle with its shell then without, you'll get a blue coin. You can ride on its shell until you hit into a wall. This will help you get up steep slopes.

Kumo:
Super Mario Land
This spider jumps along the third level. Jump on it or get it with two superballs.

L
Lakitu:
Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2(Japanese), Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario RPG, Super Mario 64
In SMB1-3, just stomp on it or put it on fire to defeat it. In SMW, it is possible to ride in Lakitu's cloud for a short time when you land a regular jump on it. Any other way o' gettin' rid o' it will make it and the cloud dissappear. In SM64, jump up directly into the cloud to destroy it.

Larry Koopa:
Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Yoshi Safari
In SMW, this Koopaling is just like Iggy, except that you have three fireballs shooting up. Fire Mario is exremely useful here.

Lemmy Koopa:
Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Yoshi Safari
The SMW Lemmy plays a Wack-a-Lemmy game with you. You've got to hit LEMMY, no one else, three times.

Li'l Boo:
Super Mario RPG
Found in Smithy Factory, it isn't much o' a scare.

Lil Sparky:
Super Mario World
A small Hothead. These guys move faster, though.

Magikoopa:
Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Super Mario RPG
In SMW, just avoid him and his block mutations. He can float in mid-air, so don't destroy platforms he stands on. In SMRPG, just work on him and whatever he makes equally.

This is an overgrown Bullet Bill.

Mallow Clone:
Super Mario RPG
The weakest o' the clones. Just attack him and everyone else equally.

These koopas walk around with Mario masks. When you bop them, their mask comes off, taking the shell with it.

Mini-Rhino:
Super Mario World
Watch out for this little flame thrower!

Monchee:

Mario can ride atop one of these, or more usefully, ride on their tail, which dangles below them for a good distance. If he touches the sides of their body, though, he's dead.

Money Bags:
Super Mario 64
Chase around and dive at to get all the money inside and get rid of this pest.

Monty Mole:
Super Mario World
A regular enemy, just like Goombas in SMB 1, 2(Japanese), and 3. Except these come out of the ground.

Morton Koopa Jr.:
Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Yoshi Safari
He'll run up a wall and come crashing down. Be sure not to be on the ground then, or you'll be paralyzed for a few seconds. Jump on him when he's on the ground.

Mouser:
Super Mario Bros. 2(American), Super Mario Advance
Pick up his bombs and toss them back at him.

N
Ninji:
Super Mario Bros. 2(Western), Super Mario World, Super Mario Advance
They sorta look like cats without a body. They just hop up and down.

Noko Bombette:
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
This is a combo o' Nokobon and Buzzy Beatle. Only a spin jump will defeat it. Without an explosion a few seconds later.

Nyololin:
Super Mario Land
A snake that stays put, but shoots poison balls. A later version o' Gao.

These might look like Chinese ballet dancers, but they're actually old guy ghosts. Only two superballs can bring them down.

Piranha Flower:
Super Mario RPG
An advanced Pirahna Plant.

Piranha Plant:
Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2(Japanese), Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario RPG

A Thwomp.

Porcupo:

Punch:
Wario Land 2
Though small, it can punch you HARD. Aproach it as a Pirate Goom.

Porcu-Puffer:
Super Mario World

R

Ramram:
Mario vs. Donkey Kong
Mario can ride on the back of one of these, or pick it up and throw it somewhere else. If Mario touches its sides, though, he's dead.

Super Mario World
These dragons that curl up into a ball were once nice inhabitants, but Bowser found a way to use them for his evil gains. Knock all four off their platform to clear the fortress.

Rex:
Super Mario World
These purple, flightless dragons take two stomps or one spin jump to squash.

An early koopa.

Shy Away:
Super Mario RPG
This is the red Shy Guy with a propeller on its back.

After you beat Valentina, his boss, if you wander out into space on the right edge o' Nimbus Land, he'll give you Fertilizer. That'll go perfect with the Seed you got from the note Shy Away left behind. Go to Rose Town and look for an extra scene end. Go into it, and you'll reach a house. Give the old man inside both, and a huge beanstalk will rise. Make like Jack and climb it, up to Lazy Shells. Give Mario the weapon and Toadstool the armor.

Shy Guy:
Super Mario Bros. 2(American), Super Mario RPG, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Story, Super Mario Advance, Mario vs. Donkey Kong
These are the little multi-color enemies behind masks.

Shyper:
Super Mario RPG
The gold thing at the left edge o' screen(in the first Smithy battle).
They'll be made by Smelter's red liquid and Smithy in the first battle, so be sure to attack Smelter a little more than Smithy.

Shyster:
Super Mario RPG
They're Mack's body guards. Just time Mallow's Thunderbolt to clear 'em out.

Sidestepper:
Mario Bros.(Arcade)
